Union Minister for Communications and Development of the Northeastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday hailed India’s rapid strides in digital transformation, declaring the country a global leader in digital technology at a World Wi-Fi Day celebration in Delhi.
Speaking at the event, Scindia described Wi-Fi as an “invisible force” powering visible change, enabling access to information, freedom to innovate, and opportunities to grow.
“World Wi-Fi Day reminds us that access to information is no longer limited by capital or infrastructure,” Scindia said. “Wi-Fi gives people the freedom to connect, create, and rise.”
He underlined India’s technological self-reliance, noting the country’s entry into an elite club of nations with indigenous telecom technology. He credited the collaborative success of public and private entities such as CDOT, Tejas Networks, and TCS in building India’s homegrown 4G stack, making it only the fifth country globally with such capability.
“India has become the leader of the digital world. We are at the forefront—from Wi-Fi to satellite—leading not just in innovation but also in impact,” the Minister said.
Scindia also revealed that India now accounts for 46% of global digital transactions, surpassing major economies like the US, China, and Europe.
Emphasising inclusivity, he highlighted that India’s 5G use-case deployment is beginning in 13 villages across the country—from Andhra Pradesh to Madhya Pradesh—underscoring the government’s rural-first approach to digital innovation.
“We are not starting 5G use cases in cities. We are starting in villages. This is the true vision of Digital India—where growth begins at the grassroots,” he said.
Scindia concluded by calling for continued innovation and collaboration to ensure every citizen benefits from the digital revolution.
